Slippery Elm Bark for Cats: Benefits and Use
Slippery Elm Bark (Ulmus rubra, also known as Ulmus fulva) is a traditional herbal supplement that has been used for many years in North America. The inner bark of the Elm tree is used because it naturally contains mucilage, a substance that forms a soft, soothing gel when mixed with water.

When prepared with water, Slippery Elm Bark creates a smooth, slippery consistency that can help support the sensitive lining of the digestive tract. It may help soothe the stomach and intestines and provide gentle digestive support for cats with sensitive digestion or occasional digestive upset.

Slippery Elm Bark is a natural, easily digestible supplement that is generally well tolerated by cats of all ages. It can be used as a gentle nutritional addition to support normal digestive function and overall comfort.

Feeding recommendation
The amount of Slippery Elm Bark depends on the individual needs and condition of the cat.
For cats, mix approximately 1/3 teaspoon of Slippery Elm Bark Powder with 5-10 ml of water until a smooth mixture forms. Depending on the cat’s needs, it can be given 1-6 times daily.

Please note:
Slippery Elm Bark may affect the absorption of certain nutrients and medications. For this reason, it is recommended to give it separately from other supplements, food or veterinary treatments whenever possible.


Slippery Elm Bark Syrup Recipe
Mix 1 to 1.5 teaspoons of Slippery Elm Bark Powder with one cup of cold water. Allow the powder to absorb the water, then slowly bring the mixture to a boil while stirring constantly for approximately 2-3 minutes until it thickens.

Allow the syrup to cool before use. The prepared syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for approximately 3-5 days. Give 0.25 to 0.5 teaspoon up to 4 times daily, depending on your cat’s needs.

Please note:
When preparing Slippery Elm Bark syrup, use a stainless steel or heat-resistant glass pan. Avoid using aluminium cookware.
